Description

Overview

Our PET Center equips with a hybrid PET/CT scanner and a state-of-the-art simultaneous PET/MRI scanner, providing high-quality hybrid images for health check-up and disease diagnosis.

Features

Positron emission tomography (PET) is a type of nuclear medicine procedure that measures metabolic activity of the cells in the body by using varies kinds of radioactive tracers. A PET scan may detect early biochemical changes of a disease process before the anatomical changes related to the disease. Nowadays, a PET scanner is usually conjugated with an anatomic imaging (CT or MRI) to provide more definitive information for diagnosis.

Procedure

The most common use of PET is in the detection of cancer and the evaluation of cancer treatment. PET is also used to evaluate the function of organs, such as the heart or brain. Our PET Center provides multiple PET radiotracer examinations, such as:

  • FDG (Fluorodeoxyglucose): for general oncologic evaluation, evaluation of epilepsy, and myocardial viability assessment
  • C-11 Acetate: for hepatocellular carcinoma evaluation
  • Fluciclovine: for evaluation of prostate cancer or brain tumors.
  • F-18 PSMA-1007: for evaluation of prostate cancer
  • F-18 FBB (Florbetaben): for dementia

You may be asked to fast 6 hours before PET exams or to prevent some diets according to varies clinical settings or which radiotracer need to be injected.

Notification

  • A radioactive tracer will be injected into the vein before PET scans. You will be exposed to a small amount of radiation. However,  the risk of negative effects from the radiation is low.
  • You need to consult your physician or a Nuclear Medicine specialist to find which PET tracer or PET scanner (PET-CT or PET-MRI) is suitable for you.
