Brief Profile

The Clinical Research Core Laboratory (CRCL), with aims to provide comprehensive research facilities and to foster excellence clinical research, was founded in November 2004 at the basement of the Chih-Teh Medical Research Building of Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH) with limited space for 18 users in the beginning. As time went, the CRCL not only expanded but also renovated the interior to a more economic and multifunctional model of core laboratories in 2011. After that, the second renovation was completed and the unveiling ceremony was held in May 21, 2020.

To date, the regions of CRCL cover laboratories from the fourth to sixth floors of the Chih-Teh Medical Research Building and all classified as biosafety level 1 (BSL 1). The space applications and bench allocations are evaluated and assigned under the supervision of the Steering Committee of Clinical Research Core Laboratory. Once the users get approved, they shall feel dedicated support in respects of research from the CRCL administrative office. The facilities of CRCL include 26 core laboratories with 173 units of benches, 4 instrument rooms, 12 cell culture rooms, 1 bacterial culture room, 5 deep-freezer storage rooms, 1 animal specimen processing room, 1 chemical operation room and 2 chemical storage rooms, 2 decontamination and sterilization rooms, as well as meeting rooms, public resource room, and casual lounges. In addition to wide-ranging facilities from CRCL, the Medical Research Department resources on high-end instruments are also consolidated to reinforce researches.

Our goal is to boost excellent clinical research by providing well-equipped facilities and well-sharing resources. Currently, we serve over 140 physician scientists from diverse clinical specialties whose research topics cover basic, clinic, translational medicine, biomedical imaging, regenerative medicine, big data, AI in precision medicine, etc. accompanying with fruitful research papers. With thorough regulations and standard operation principles followed by proper execution, the CRCL earns its reputation for excellent research facilities, abundant resources, prompt bench allocations, transparent management, efficient administrative assistance, and sustain in-service training for securing the strengths of TVGH in clinical research.
